SOURCE: SPIROMICS Study of Early COPD Progression is looking for people who have never smoked cigarettes, people who are current cigarette smokers, and people who are former cigarette smokers between 30 and 55 years old to participate in a research study on early signs of lung disease. Most studies of lung disease and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) involve older people. This 5-year study at 14 sites across the U.S. will help us better understand COPD in younger people. You do not need a COPD diagnosis to join.

Our current approach to the clinical management of COPD is focused on the treatment of moderate to severe disease. To truly bend the needle in reducing morbidity and mortality we need to focus on the prevention and treatment of pre-COPD and mild disease. The SOURCE early COPD study will provide critical information about the beginnings of COPD that will facilitate that shift.
