SOURCE: SPIROMICS Study of Early COPD Progression is looking for current and former cigarette smokers between 30 and 55 years old to participate in a research study on early signs of lung disease. Most studies of lung disease and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) involve older people. This 5-year study at 14 sites across the U.S. will help us better understand COPD in younger people. You do not need a COPD diagnosis to join.

What’s Involved
The SOURCE study involves two in-person clinic visits and regular telephone follow-up. The clinic visits occur 1) at the beginning of the study and 2) at a three-year follow-up. Visits take approximately 4 hours and include:
- questionnaires
- breathing tests
- CT scan of the lungs
A bronchoscopy will also be offered to participants with abnormal breathing test results. A brief telephone follow-up takes place every six months, with a longer phone call after 18 months of participation in the study. You will be compensated for your time.
